Dear Ice Climbers & Friends:

Here is what's going on as we prepare for the 2009 Ouray Ice Festival.

The 13th annual Ouray Ice Festival was the world's greatest gathering of legends, friends and climbers. The 82 clinics offered wonderful instruction with the world's best mountaineers, the 2008 Ice Festival Competition saw Ines Papert, Audrey Gariepy, Evgeny Kris.. and Jeff Mercier battling against one another. Over 200+ local volunteers helped make the event a huge success and the 3,000 visitors enjoyed every moment of the annual get together. The nightly parties offered great dancing and partying!! Where were you in 2008?

The "Got Stump" auction raised $10,000 dollars towards a new climbing area in the lower gorge that will offer great new mixed routes and beginner terrain. The slideshows offered wonderful entertainment and good fun.

With the money raised at this years fest great things will certainly happen this summer at the park when we begin getting ready for the 2009 season.

We are constantly promoting and implementing climber and spectator safety initiatives throughout the park. The OIPI "Know the Rules" wallet sized card is being distributed throughout local businesses in Ouray, providing park rules to all that climb, or observe the festival. Make sure to know your responsibility and think safety first while in the park. If you see someone doing something unsafe, help them make the right (and safe) choice!

The Ice Park Board with the Trust for Public Lands and the city and county of Ouray are continuing to work towards acquiring 50+ acres surrounding the Ouray Ice Park. This effort will continue as a long-term solution for the parks existence. We are hopeful this acquisition will occur in the summer of 2008.

Check out our Ouray Ice Park Store for really "COOL" gift ideas.

Thank you for your continued support, without your participation in membership the Park could not survive.
